Release Report: Week of January 31

February is upon us… but release wise, it’s pretty barren this week. There’s absolutely no Wii games coming out this week, but the silver lining here is that you can go out and get Tatsunoko Vs Capcom or No More Heroes 2 if you haven’t already!
No commentsNMH2′s Bizarre Jelly 5 Video Is A NSFW Trope-tastic Romp Through Fake Anime
Upon beating the Bizarre Jelly 5 shoot ‘em up mini-game in No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle, you unlock this very hilarious, very NSFW video that parodies elements from the multitude of moe-centric Japanese anime. So, unless you have a very understanding boss and co-workers or you work at some sort of pedo factory, it’s best that you save watching this video until you are in the safety of your non-judgmental home.
No commentsMetroid: Other M is Coming Out This Year

Team Ninja and Nintendo’s collaboration in the Metroid universe is dated for a release before the end of this year. The news comes from the newly opened teaser site for the game. No details about story, gameplay or anything, really, have been given. However, I have been taken in by the very un-Metroid like song looping on the site. It goes well with the image of the tranquil city sunset.
No commentsMonado Gets Renamed, Mistwalker Announces A New Wii RPG

At last year’s e3, a trailer for Monolith Soft’s Monado: Beginning of the World intrigued Wii gamers, but that feeling quickly faded as time passed and news of the RPG stopped. Now, it seems, the title may be trying to regain that attention by revealing a name change and announcing a 2010 release. The game has been retitled to Xenoblade, possibly in an attempt to draw people in with the familiar sounding Xeno prefix from Monolith’ Soft’s other RPGs Xenogears/Xenosaga.
In other RPG news, Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi’s Mistwalker studio revealed that they will be working on an RPG for the Wii. All we know about the title is that it is called The Last Story and that it will come out sometime this year. A teaser site for the game is up. There only additional information there is the above image and a very Uematsu-esque melody.
No commentsNew Pokémon RPG Due Out Before The End of 2010

Whenever I see there is a pokémon story to cover, an almost automatic sigh squeaks out. It’s not the story or the series that bugs me, it’s just the fact that I end up having to take the extra little step to dig up the accented “é” for every story.
Anywho, the official Japanese Pokémon site has announced that a new RPG will be coming out for the DS before the end of this year. The game has not yet been titled, but many are assuming it is going to be a sequel to Platinum/Diamond/Pearl.
I think it’s a bit too soon to expect something as big as a new generation of Pokémon. Japan just got HeartGold and SoulSilver late last year and the rest of the world still has over a month to wait before they can play it. It’s possible that this could be a brand new spin-off or a new entry into one of the previous branches of the Pokémon universe. It has been a while since we’ve seen a Mystery Dungeon title…
No commentsEarly Zelda Art In The Newest Iwata Asks

The newest Iwata Asks talks Spirit Tracks, but the main focus of the segment is really the history of the Zelda franchise. Everything from the various Nintendo cameos in Link’s Awakening to developing new, broad audience is brought up in Iwata’s conversation with EAD members Takashi Tezuka and Eiji Aonuma.
However, this particular Iwata Asks has a couple of bonus sections that includes never-before-seen concept art for the original Legend of Zelda like the one above that sizes up various enemies and items. We even learn the secret of why there is a second quest in the original Zelda (spoiler: somebody done messed up).

No commentsReturn to Neo Arcadia This Summer

Mega Man Zero Collection is scheduled to hit Japanese stores on April 22, and now Capcom has announced that the compilation of GBA games will be coming to North America this summer.
There’s no firm date, but at least we know that it’s coming. Plus, there’s the added bonus of getting to play it when school’s out. Unless you’re working, then that just sucks.
No commentsFlash Demo of Tower of Shadow Available
Hudson’s WiiWare puzzle/platformer Tower of Shadow still doesn’t have a release date, but to help pass the time, and possibly distract you, a very rudimentary flash demo has been posted up on the game’s Japanese site to acquaint you with the basics of controlling perspective to alter the playing field.

Natal Tech Was Proposed To Nintendo But Turned Down

According to a “top insider” informing to CVG.com, the technology behind Microsoft’s Project Natal was once proposed to Nintendo and was even demoed before Satoru Iwata, but the Nintendo pres ultimately turned it down because he didn’t believe the tech could be sold at a price suitable for the mass market.
Price wasn’t the only determining factor in passing on Natal. Concerns over latency issues with the player’s actions being translated to on-screen movements prevented the tech from being green-lighted.
What do you think? Is this true, or bogus?
No commentsDragon Quest Monsters: Joker Sequel Announced

A sequel to the DS monster-collecting Dragon Quest spin-off, Dragon Quest Monster: Joker, was confirmed by Square Enix after Famitsu broke word of it in their latest issue.
The first game was a success in Japan, selling over 1 million units, but it didn’t fare as well in the Americas, only managing to sell a little over 250,000 copies. It’ll be interesting to see if Square Enix will localize the game for other territories because of that fact.
No release date has been given just yet.
