GBA Ambassador Games May Be Delayed Until Next Year

November 30th, 2011 | Category: Uncategorized

The 3DS firmware update might not be the only thing getting pushed back. According to the Nintendo Spain website, the 10 free Game Boy Advance titles that were supposed to be given out to the members of the 3DS Ambassador Program before the end of the year have reportedly been delayed until some time next year.

From the Spanish Ambassador page (through Google Translate):

Available from next year.
Titles Game Boy Advance Virtual Console service

Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3

Mario Kart: Super Circuit

Metroid Fusion WarioWare, Inc.: Minigame Mania

Mario vs. Donkey Kong titles

and five titles Characteristics of Virtual Console NES (priority version)

The Ambassador Program was designed as a token of good will from Nintendo to everyone who bought the 3DS before the company cut the system’s price. Everyone in the program was promised 10 free NES and 10 free GBA games before the end of the year.

Unfortunately, it looks like Ambassadors will have to wait a little bit longer to play GBA games on their 3DS. On the upside, at least the handheld’s library is much better than it was when the program first started, making the wait a little more tolerable.

Nintendo U.K. announced that Resident Evil Revelations will be released in Europe as a standalone title and as a limited edition bundle packaged with the Circle Pad Pro attachment. Currently, no price has been set for the bundle.

Last month, Capcom said they had no plans to release a Circle Pad Pro bundle for North America.

Rhythm Heaven Fever Dated for North America

November 30th, 2011 | Category: Uncategorized

The last time we saw Rhythm Heaven Fever, it was sitting on a “To Be Announced” release date on Nintendo’s software schedule.

Well, that date’s been announced.

The latest issue of Nintendo Power has a four-page preview of the Wii rhythm game and in it they reveal that it’s slated for release this February in North America.

Despite being on the Wii, Rhythm Heaven Fever doesn’t use motion controls for the mini-games. Instead, it relies on simply pressing the A button in time with the music — a wise decision, considering the game requires fairly precise timing and can’t afford to be mucked up with sketchy waggle moves.

Skyward Sword Is The Fastest-Selling Zelda Title Ever

November 29th, 2011 | Category: Uncategorized

Link’s latest adventure is his most successful one yet.

Since it released on November 20, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword has sold more than 535,000 units, making it the fastest-selling Zelda game ever, according to Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime.

Super Mario 3D Land also broke records, selling more than 500,000 units since its November 11 launch. Reggie says that makes it the fastest-selling portable Mario game in the company’s history.

Both titles have had a positive effect on hardware numbers: The Wii sold more than 500,000 units on Black Friday (along with some pre-Friday sales) and sales of the 3DS have tripled from their numbers the week before Super Mario 3D Land launched.

I wonder what effect next week’s Mario Kart 7 launch will have on hardware sales.

Luigi’s Mansion 2 Listed As A Two-Player Title [Update]

November 29th, 2011 | Category: Uncategorized

[Update: It turns out the multiplayer listing actually was a typo. Luigi’s Mansion 2 will only be a one player affair.]

The Luigi’s Mansion 2 page on the Nintendo Europe site lists the game as supporting one to two players. Unless someone made a typo, we can expect some sort of multiplayer mode.

Unfortunately, there’s no information on how multiplayer would work, but I have my fingers crossed for some sort of Ghostbusters-esque co-op with Mario. Just remember never to cross the streams.

Mario Kart 7 Also Gets A Digital Manual

November 29th, 2011 | Category: Uncategorized

Just like with Super Mario 3D Land, Nintendo is putting Mario Kart 7‘s instruction manual on the actual game card.

The game will still come with a fold-out reference sheet that covers the game’s basics, along with instructions on how to access the digital manual.

I know that this is a decent way to save paper and cut down on printing costs, but as a person who grew up flipping through instruction manuals on the ride home from the game store, this makes my heart sink.

November 3DS Firmware Update Now Coming Out in December

November 28th, 2011 | Category: Uncategorized

The 3DS firmware that was supposed to add 3D video recording, new StreetPass content and user functionality improvements won’t make it’s originally announced November launch.

An update on Nintendo’s Japanese site confirmed the delay. According to the company, they just needed more time to ready the update. It’s now scheduled to go live on December 8.

Progress Halting Bug May Be in Skyward Sword

November 28th, 2011 | Category: Uncategorized

There’s a rumor going around that Skyward Sword has a game-breaking glitch that prevents you from advancing the story. What makes it more devastating is that it reportedly occurs near the end of the game.

The details on what trigger the glitch are still unclear. However, Zelda Informer is looking into possible causes.

What we do know about the glitch (Be warned, if you aren’t at the Song of the Hero quest, there will be spoilers):

  • It seems to pop up when you do the Thunder Dragon part first.
  • It occurs during the Life Tree portion of the Thunder Dragon’s quest.
  • It prevents you from doing the Fire Dragon and Water Dragon portions of the Song of the Hero quest.

While it may only be a rumor, it’s probably better to err on the side of caution on this one. Not having to start the game all over again might be worth spoiling a few end game details.

Pink 3DS Bundles Coming Next Week

November 28th, 2011 | Category: Uncategorized

After bringing out the Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 3D Land bundles over the long Thanksgiving weekend, Nintendo is turning up the testosterone levels and releasing a couple of nintendogs + cats 3DS bundles. You know, for the fellas.

The bundles also mark the debut of the Misty Pink 3DS in the U.S.

Nintendo will be putting out two versions: one with nintendogs + cats: Toy Poodle and Friends and one with the equally manly nintendogs + cats: French Bulldog and Friends.

The bundles will be in stores on December 4. Unlike the Zelda and Mario bundles, these ones are only $169 — the same price as a standalone 3DS. So, essentially, you’re getting nintendogs + cats for free!

November 27th, 2011 | Category: Uncategorized

With Black Friday over, the rush of titles coming out this holiday season is finally starting to slow down a bit. There’s still Mario Kart 7 to look forward to next week, but the it seems the bulk of AAA releases has passed.
