Increasing the 3DS XL’s Battery Life Took Priority Over Adding A Second Circle Pad

July 31st, 2012 | Category: Uncategorized

The reason the 3DS XL doesn’t have a second analog Circle Pad is because it would have affected battery life. At least, that’s what Nintendo UK’s marketing manager Ben Taylor said.

“We did review the possibility of the second controller, but we felt that increased battery life was really important to players, and this would have been affected if we had introduced one. It would also have made the console a lot bigger and bulkier.”

Taylor’s claim seems a little suspect, especially when looking at the spec sheet from last month’s Nintendo Direct where it shows the 3DS XL only gained an extra half hour of playtime (in 3DS mode) over the original 3DS.

Still, Taylor does remind everyone that many games don’t really need a second Circle Pad.

“Importantly, the majority of games, for instance the likes of Mario Kart 7 or Super Mario 3D Land, don’t benefit from the second controller,” said Taylor. “A second circle pad peripheral is in development for the 3DS XL which can be used for titles such as Resident Evil Revelations.”

A 3DS version of the Circle Pad Pro is coming. XL users will just have to fork over the extra cash for the add on if they want to utilize the extra functions of games that support it.

Max Factory Making Pit, Dark Pit Figmas

July 31st, 2012 | Category: Uncategorized

The Figma wizard must’ve gotten to Pit and his anti-hero counterpart because they’re both getting turned into Figmas.

The popular line of figures from Max Factory will addKid Icarus: Uprising’s stars to its roster.

A prototype model was on display at last weekend’s Wonder Festival in Tokyo.

These two won’t be the first Nintendo characters to receive the Figma treatment. Earlier this year, the company unveiled figures for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword‘s Link and Metroid: Other M’s Samus.

Golf Is The Latest Club Nintendo Game

July 30th, 2012 | Category: Uncategorized

It’s already time for a new Club Nintendo game!

From now until August 12, the Game Boy version of Golf can be yours for 150 Coins.

Despite being a decent video game golf player, I’ve never actually played this, but it looks like a precursor to the Hot Shots/Mario Golf/Pangya games with the use of the three-click swing system.

Dragon Quest X Nintendo Direct

July 30th, 2012 | Category: Uncategorized

Nintendo promoted the latest Nintendo Direct event as being all about Dragon Quest X, and it was just that.

However, there wasn’t much in the way of groundbreaking announcements. The presentation was mostly a chance for Square Enix to show off the game’s features like character customization, combat systems and online elements.

There still hasn’t been any word on a worldwide release, but the game is set to hit Japan this Thursday.

No Reversible New Super Mario Bros. 2 Art for North America

July 30th, 2012 | Category: Uncategorized

Kid Icarus: Uprising must have just been a fluke because the North American copies of New Super Mario Bros. 2 won’t have the reversible cover art found in the Japanese cases.

Either that, or it’s a big conspiracy by Nintendo to make the digital release more appealing by taking away one of the perks of a physical copy.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 Gets Special Packaging

July 28th, 2012 | Category: Uncategorized

Amazon’s not the only one with a gold box.

The Japanese packaging for New Super Mario Bros. 2 is decked out in gold (well, yellow).

Not only that, the game has a reversible cover! Nintendo doesn’t usually bother with reversible covers for North American releases, but they did make an exception with Kid Icarus: Uprising. So, there’s still a chance it could show up outside of Japan.

It would certainly make it harder to choose between that or 50 extra Club Nintendo Coins.

Just like with Super Mario 3D Land, Nintendo is printing out the controls for New Super Mario Bros. 2 on a little fold-out poster while making more traditional instructions available in-game via the 3DS menu.

Naturally, this Action Guide is only being included with the physical release.
