3DS Hacker Gains Access to Kernel Mode

December 31st, 2012 | Category: Uncategorized

Midnight Purple 3DS ShowcaseAccording to a chatlog from a fairly reliable source, a hacker named Neimod has gained access to the 3DS’ kernel mode on an unmodified system.

With access to the system’s kernel mode, Neimod says “anything is possible.” This means things like the 3DS’ region lock can be removed. It also means it can be possible to run pirated code, though Neimod says he has no interest in letting others do so.

Wii U GamePads Sort of Have Region Locking

December 26th, 2012 | Category: Uncategorized

Wii U GamePad Region Lock

In the unlikely event that you have two Wii U GamePads and at least one happens to be from another region, you will not be able to perform firmware updates with the foreign GamePad as updates are apparently tied to specific regions.

It’s unclear if you’re still able to play games if the GamePad is already running the most current firmware version, but it’s really a non-issue since there aren’t any games that support two GamePad play.

Nintendo Currently Has No Plans to Integrate or Merge Both eShops

December 24th, 2012 | Category: Uncategorized

Dan Adelman

Speaking with Nintendo Life, Dan Adelman, the man behind Nintendo’s downloadable services, said that the company doesn’t plan to combine the Wii U and 3DS eShops into one all-access marketplace.

“Well we’re calling them both eShop. It’s just that one is the 3DS eShop, and the other is the Wii U eShop. Wii U users can see info in the Wii U eShop about 3DS games, but right now we don’t have any immediate plans to sell 3DS games via the Wii U eShop – or vice versa.”

It doesn’t seem like too big of a loss not being able to visit one unified storefront, but it would seem like something convenient for people who like to like to do a little digital window shopping.

Wii U Version of Dragon Quest X Will Have Orchestrated Music

December 24th, 2012 | Category: Uncategorized

Dragon Quest X Wii U

Since the Wii and Wii U versions of Dragon Quest X will need to be cross-platform compatible, there won’t be any major differences between both games. However, series creator Yuji Horii and producer Yosuke Saito announced that, unlike the Wii version which featured synthesized music, the Wii U version of the game will feature a orchestral soundtrack.

Dragon Quest X launches for the Wii U this spring in Japan. People who bought the Japanese Premium Wii U also received access to the game’s beta, which is set to begin in February.
