Struggling Wii U Sales Don’t Stop Nintendo from Posting Quarterly Profit

July 31st, 2013 | Category: Uncategorized

Mario 3D World 00

Nintendo posted their financial earnings release today, revealing a profitable first quarter.

Thanks in part to a weakening yen, the game company was able to post a net profit of 8.6 billion yen ($88 million).

The Wii U is still not selling as expected, resulting in a “negative impact” on profits. According to their report, Wii U hardware and software only sold 160,000 units and 1.03 million units, respectively, worldwide during this quarter. The company attributes the low numbers to the lack of first-party titles to drive hardware sales.

Broken down by region, of the 160,000 Wii Us sold, 90,000 were in Japan, 60,000 were in North America and 10,000 were in Europe, Australia and other territories.

Ghostlight Needs 1,800 Pre-Orders to Release Devil Survivor 2 in Europe

July 29th, 2013 | Category: Uncategorized

Devil Survivor 2 01

Earlier this month, publisher Ghostlight revealed that European retailers weren’t willing to stock Devil Survivor 2, likely due to it being a niche title for the nearly obsolete DS.

However, instead of cancelling the game, Ghostlight offered up an ultimatum to the game’s fans: If enough people pre-order the game from the Ghostlight store, Devil Survivor 2 will get a European release.

At the time, the publisher didn’t say how many units they would need to sell, but after crunching the numbers, they’ve announced that they need approximately 1,800 pre-orders to break even on the title.

Ghostlight is planning to offer two pre-order packages:

  • Standalone Version
    • Only includes Devil Survivor 2, but you have the option to have your name printed in the game’s manual.
    • £24.99/€29.99
  • Devil Survivor 2/Overclocked Bundle
    • Includes Devil Survivor 2 and Devil Survivor Overclocked
    • £10.00 cheaper than getting both games individually.
    • Bundle also gives you the option to put your name in the Devil Survivor 2 manual.
    • £49.98/€59.98

Both packages will only be available for one month. If they don’t reach their quota, Ghostlight will provide full refunds to everyone who got the standalone version. Anyone who opted for the bundle will only get back £24.99, but they will still get their copy of Devil Survivor Overclocked at a £10 discount.

Rodea the Sky Soldier Still in Development

July 29th, 2013 | Category: Uncategorized

Rodea the sky soldier 00

Last we heard of Prope’s Rodea the Sky Soldier, development on the Wii version had been completed, the 3DS version was still being worked on and publisher Kadokawa Games had gone silent on anything regarding the game. This was last September.

It turns out the game is still being worked on.

Kadokawa president Yoshimi Yasuda said in a recent interview that the reason there haven’t been any announcements for the game is because there wasn’t much media interest in the title.

Yasuda went on to say the 3DS version is roughly 70 percent complete. One of the issues currently being tackled is how to translate the game’s controls, which were originally designed for the Wii Remote, for the 3DS.

There is still no word on a release date.
