Tomodachi Collection: New Life May Be Released Outside Japan

January 31st, 2014 | Category: Uncategorized

A short blurb in an article from The Wall Street Journal makes it sound like Nintendo is considering localizing Tomodachi Collection: New Life for other territories.

“The company is now working to decide what can be kept and what needs to be scrapped for its overseas launch of ‘Tomodachi Collection’ — or ‘Friend Collection’ — a 3DS life simulation game in which Miis from consoles can interact with one another and develop via mundane activities, such as exchanging food and clothing.”

The game is a life sim in a similar vein to Animal Crossing, but you play as a Mii. Instead of hanging out with animal villagers, you hang out with other Miis, and by building relationships, you can unlock new places to visit.

Tomodachi Collection: New Life is fairly popular in Japan. It was the seventh 3DS game to sell more than one million units in the region.

Currently, the game isn’t listed in Nintendo’s software launch schedule for 2014 and according to the company’s PR team they have “nothing to announce at this time.”

DS Titles Coming to Wii U Virtual Console

January 30th, 2014 | Category: Uncategorized

VC DS

DS games will be heading to the Virtual Console in the future, but surprisingly it will be on the Wii U and not the 3DS.

Nintendo didn’t give a time frame for when we can expect to see the games in the eShop, nor did they say why they wouldn’t offer DS titles in the 3DS eShop. Our best guess for the latter is that they feel it’s unnecessary since the 3DS already supports backwards compatibility with DS games.

Nintendo Planning Quick Start Menu for Wii U

January 30th, 2014 | Category: Uncategorized

Wii U Quick Start Menu

As part of their strategy to demonstrate the value of the Wii U GamePad, Nintendo is looking into releasing an update this summer that will allow users to quickly boot up games without having to go to the main Wii U menu.

Similar to how the TV button is able to turn on the GamePad without powering on the Wii U, the quick start menu will be accessible without having to first turn on the console. Upon startup, the GamePad will allow you to select from your most recently played games.

With this update, Nintendo believes it can cut down the amount of time it takes to jump into a game by 50 percent.

Key Nintendo Members to Take Pay Cuts After Disappointing Financial Performance

January 29th, 2014 | Category: Uncategorized

Iwata Nintendo Direct

Despite posting a ¥10.2 billion (≈$100 million) net profit during the nine-month period March to December, Nintendo is still expecting a net loss of ¥25 billion (≈$245 million) for the fiscal year ending March 31. Because of this, company president Satoru Iwata will cut his salary in half and other members of the board will take 20 to 30 percent pay cuts for the next five months.

Whether the cuts will extend beyond that period will depend on how the company is doing at that point, according to Iwata.

3DS LL 3DS

Famitsu.com reports that, after 153 weeks on the market, the 3DS (and 3DS LL/XL) has sold more than 15 million units in Japan.

If you’re curious as to why the 2DS isn’t included in these numbers, that’s simply because it hasn’t been released in the country.
