Processing Power Is The Reason Super Smash Bros. for 3DS Won’t Support the Circle Pad Pro

September 30th, 2014 | Category: Uncategorized

3DS Circle Pad Pro Bundle

In the latest issue of Famitsu, Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai put an end to speculation and gave the reason why the 3DS version of the game will not support the Circle Pad Pro add on while it will support use of the New 3DS’ C-Stick.

Translation from NeoGAF:

(What is the reason that the game supports the New 3DS’ C-Stick, but not the Circle Pad Pro?)

“Supporting the CCP requires the use of some of the CPU’s processing load. From the information received during the development of Kid Icarus: Uprising, this is a quite large load at around 5%. Kid Icarus: Uprising and Smash both use the maximum capability of the device, so we had to abandon the idea of CCP support.

With the New 3DS, we were able to support the C-Stick as the processing power is increased and it is not a peripheral device.”

The loss of a second analog input for the 3DS is a considerable loss to high-level Smash players, who like to take advantage of the various benefits it offers.

It’s hard to believe that Nintendo’s been around for well over a century, yet here they are turning 125 years old today.

The company’s seen quite a few changes since its start in 1889 as a producer of Hanafuda cards, venturing into different business realms – taxis, love hotels, toys and more – before becoming the iconic gaming giant it is today.

Happy birthday, Nintendo! We hope you have continued success in the years to come.
