VOEZ Version 1.1 Update Adds 18 New Songs for Free

A free update is now available for the Switch version of VOEZ, adding 18 new songs to the touchscreen-based rhythm game, including “Blue Heat Haze” from another of publisher Flyhigh Works’ titles The Legend of Dark Witch.

VOEZ is on sale in the eShop for $25.00.

River City: Knights of Justice and River City: Rival Showdown Coming to 3DS This Year

Natsume announced plans to release two new River City titles later this year on 3DS: River City: Knights of Justice and River City: Rival Showdown.

Knights of Justice is a medieval-themed take on the classic River City formula, complete with knights, dragons, swords and magic. The game will be an eShop exclusive and is expected to launch this summer.

Rival Showdown is an enhanced remake of the original River City Ransom. Environments and characters have all received a visual upgrade, and there are new skills and special attacks to learn. It will be out sometime this fall.

Both games will be present at this year’s E3, which takes place from June 13 to 15 at the L.A. convention center.

This Week in Games: “Looking Forward to June” Edition

The next couple of weeks are going to be relatively empty until around mid-June when ARMS, Cave Story+, Runbow Pocket Deluxe Edition and Ever Oasis all come out.

Monster Hunter XX Switch Details

Capcom put out the first trailer for the Switch version of Monster Hunter XX (Double Cross) and revealed more info on the port during Monster Hunter Championship 2017.

The game will run at 1080p while docked and 720p in handheld mode.

Players with save data from the 3DS version of Monster Hunter XX will be able to freely transfer their data to and from the Switch version via Internet. Monster Hunter X (Generations in the West) data can also be imported, but it cannot be transferred back.

As for multiplayer, the Switch version will support both online and local play for up to four players. Online play will even support multiplayer hunts with 3DS players.

The game will launch on August 25 in Japan. A special edition Switch bundle will be available for ¥36,280. It will include a copy of the game, a Switch and a special Monster Hunter-themed dock.

Sidebar Games Announce Golf RPG “Golf Story” for Switch

Those yearning for another sports RPG in the vein of Camelot’s Mario Golf games on the Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance may find Sidebar Games’ Golf Story to be just what they are looking for.

The developers released the first trailer today and added a few game details to the official website.

  • Play through a dramatic story with a diverse cast of characters.

Golf Story will be out this summer.

eShop Thursday: “Violent Ken is A Great Name” Edition

Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers is out tomorrow. It marks the first official appearance of Violent Ken in a mainline Street Fighter game.

If a $40 release of an updated version of a $15 HD remake is too pricey, there are alternatives, like the ACA version of The King of Fighters ’99, which is out on the Switch today for $7.99.

Pokémon: Magikarp Jump Out Now for iOS and Android in the U.S.

Nintendo and The Pokémon Company launched Pokémon: Magikarp Jump for iOS and Android devices last week in Europe and yesterday in Japan. Now, the free-to-play Magikarp-raising simulator is available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store in the U.S.

Players can catch, feed and train Magikarp to increase its Jump Power and have it jump as high as it possibly can. Trainers can also have their Magikarp compete against other Magikarp to become League Champion.

In-app purchases are available in the form of assists for food, training and catching Magikarp.

Bandai Namco Porting Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 to Switch

The sequel to Dragon Ball Xenoverse is coming to the Switch this fall, Namco Bandai confirmed today on Twitter.

The Switch version will include features that take advantage of the system’s unique setup, including motion controls, ad-hoc play for up to six players and local two-player battles with single joy-cons.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 launched last October on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. A fourth DLC pack was recently announced for the game. It is currently unknown whether the additional content will make its way to the Switch release.

This Week in Games: “Not Enough Time for Games” Edition

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia came out last Friday and now the second part of the one-two punch of SRPGs lands this Tuesday when Disgaea 5 Complete launches on the Switch.

Both games are set to monopolize any possible free time you may have, making it harder to fit in sessions for Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers and Darksiders: Warmastered Edition, which also come out this week.
