The Fate of Prope’s Rodea the Sky Soldier Is Still Up in the Air

Category: Uncategorized

Even though development on the Wii version of Rodea the Sky Soldier, the latest game from Prope, has been complete for nearly a year, Prope founder Yuji Naka still has no idea when the publisher Kadokawa Games will release the title.

“We have finished developing the Wii version and we have already submitted it,” Naka told Polygon. “That was around a year ago. But it seems like they are still considering the [details of] the 3DS version.”

Part of the confusion appears to stem from a bit of a disconnect and lack of communication between Kadokawa, who are also developing the 3DS version of Rodea, and Prope.

“[The 3DS version of Rodea] might be close to being finished, but we haven’t spoken to Kadokawa in a while, so I’m not sure,” said Naka. “Kadokawa never said they’re not going to sell it, so I would guess they’ll release it sometime in 2013 or so.”

“That has to get cleared up. Because of that, I’m not sure what’s going to happen to the game. However, I’m very confident we were able to create a new type of action game. I really want a lot of people to play this game.”

Rodea the Sky Soldier was originally announced early last year. One of the Wii version’s key features was that it would be playable with only the Wii Remote. Movement is handled by pointing at the screen and combat actions are performed with the A button.

There were talks of bringing Rodea to the West by XSEED Games, but little has been said in terms of anything serious.
