For the Japanese market, the Wii U is nearing its final days. On Nintendo’s hardware page, the company confirmed that production of the system is scheduled to end soon.

A representative for Nintendo issued a statement to IGN re-confirming the message and addressed the system’s availability in North America.

“As recently posted by Nintendo on the Wii U website in Japan, Wii U production will end in the near future for the Japanese domestic market. We have nothing to announce in terms of exact timing.

“We can confirm that as of today, all Wii U hardware that will be made available in the North American market for this fiscal year has already been shipped to our retail partners. We encourage anyone who wants Wii U to communicate with their preferred retail outlet to monitor availability.”

Nintendo’s next home console the Nintendo Switch is slated to launch this March. A global livestream presentation to talk about price, launch date and games currently in development is scheduled to air on January 12.
