A report from the Nikkei says that Nintendo will begin implementing downloadable content in their games starting in March. The first game to make use of this will be Fire Emblem for the 3DS.
Third-parties will be able to add DLC starting some time this summer.
Like eShop items, DLC can be paid for with prepaid cards or credit cards.
According to the Nikkei, Nintendo is also planning on a similar DLC strategy for the Wii U.
With the next Nintendo Direct conference scheduled to stream later today, it’s possible that we’ll hear an official announcement and more details.
