BAFTA Honoring Miyamoto With Fellowship Award

Category: Uncategorized

The BAFTA Fellowship is the highest honor the British Academy of Film and Television Arts can award to a person, and they will be bestowing the honor to the legendary Shigeru Miyamoto next month.

Miyamoto’s role as an important figure in the gaming industy was one of the reasons he was selected for the high honor, according to BAFTA Chairman David Parfitt.

“It is only fitting that Miyamoto be recognised alongside… other pioneers for his groundbreaking work,” said Parfitt. “He helped to develop an entire creative industry and is still a major force in its continuing success.”

Grateful for the award, Miyamoto admitted that he couldn’t have done it alone.

“Our video games cannot be created by one person; since Donkey Kong until the most recent New Super Mario Bros. Wii, I have been working closely with a number of friends for three decades in order to develop fun and enjoyable games,” Miyamoto said. “I would like to receive this honourable award on behalf of all of these dependable colleagues.”

BAFTA will present the award as part of the BAFTA Video Game Awards on March 19.
