A Look at 3DS Game File Sizes

Category: Uncategorized

With retail 3DS games coming to the eShop this August, storage space on the 3DS will become much more precious, especially if you’re using the 2GB SD card that came with the handheld.

According to a list of 3DS game file sizes compiled by Nintendo Gamer, if Resident Evil Revelations were added to the eShop catalog, it would be impossible to download without upgrading to at least a 4GB SD card, and even then there wouldn’t be much space left over for things like apps and other games.

Kid Icarus: Uprising, while able to fit on the bundled SD card, still eats up a lot of space, coming in at 1.61 GB.

Fortunately, not all 3DS games are quite as massive.

  • Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D – 0.67 GB
  • Mario Kart 7 – 0.66 GB
  • Star Fox 64 3D – 0.63 GB
  • The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time 3D – 0.47 GB
  • nintendogs + cats – 0.46 GB
  • Pokémon Rumble Blast – 0.33 GB
  • Super Mario 3D Land – 0.31 GB
  • Steel Diver – 0.18 GB
  • Pilotwings Resort – 0.10 GB

If you’re planning on going the digital route when the option becomes available, it’s definitely a wise (and logical) decision to invest in a higher capacity SD card. Luckily, it’s not too difficult to find 16 and 32 GB for cheap.
