New Fatal Frame Movie, Novel, Manga and Wii U Game Announced

Category: Uncategorized

Fatal Frame IV

It’s been six years since the last Fatal Frame game (two if you count the spin-off Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir), but Tecmo Koei is looking to reinvigorate the Fatal Frame franchise in a big way in Japan.

In addition to a brand new game for the Wii U, the company has a live-action movie in the works directed by Ring of Curse director Mari Asato. It is set to star Aoi Morikawa and Ayami Nakajo. The movie is planned for a fall release.

A Fatal Frame novel is being penned by Multiple Personality Detective Psycho and The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service writer Eiji Otsuka. It will be released in August.

No release date has been given for the Fatal Frame manga, but we know that it will be done by Drops of God writer Shin Kibayashi and published by Kodansha.

The Game Boy Turns 25

Category: Uncategorized

DSC_0025

On April 21, 1989, the Game Boy launched in Japan.

The product of legendary game designer Gunpei Yokoi, the Game Boy encompassed his philosophy of “Lateral Thinking of Withered Technology.” Yokoi believed in the importance of gameplay over new technologies, that fun experiences could be crafted with older, more abundant and better understood hardware.

It was because of that non-reliance on cutting-edge tech that the Game Boy to win out over the more powerful handhelds of that generation, like the Game Gear, Lynx and TurboExpress.

The Game Boy may no longer be around in name, merely laying dormant until Nintendo decides to dust it off, but its spirit and philosophies continue to live on today in the DS and 3DS.

Happy birthday, Game Boy.

Yoshi Egg Hunt Going On in the eShop

Category: Uncategorized

With Easter happening this Sunday, Nintendo is holding a Yoshi egg hunt in the eShop.

Until April 24, Yoshi eggs will be not-so-hidden among several eShop titles. So far, we’ve found eggs on the pages for The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros., but there are sure to be more.

You won’t get anything for finding all the eggs, but it’s still fun to have something to look out for while browsing the eShop.
