Grab Your Poltergust: The Original Luigi’s Mansion Joins Switch 2 Classics Next Week
Calling all ghost hunters and fans of the green-capped brother! In a perfectly timed Halloween treat, Nintendo has announced that the spooky classic Luigi’s Mansion is creeping onto the Nintendo Switch 2 via the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service.
Mark your calendars: the game arrives on October 30, 2025, just in time to set the mood for a ghostly gaming weekend.
This update is a major one for the growing GameCube library on the service. Originally a launch title for the Nintendo GameCube in 2001, Luigi’s Mansion thrust a timid Luigi into the spotlight, tasking him with cleansing a haunted mansion he unexpectedly won.
The Premise: A Ghoulish Adventure
The story is as charming as it is spooky. Luigi wins a stately mansion in a contest, only to discover it’s teeming with ghosts. To make matters worse, his brother Mario is missing somewhere inside!
Armed with Professor E. Gadd’s ghost-sucking Poltergust 3000 and the handy Game Boy Horror device, players must guide a terrified Luigi through the creepy corridors, capture a gallery of ghouls, and uncover the mansion’s secrets to save Mario.
A Trifecta of Terror on Switch 2
This addition is especially significant because it means, for the first time, you can play all three mainline Luigi’s Mansion games on a single console—the Nintendo Switch 2.
- The original Luigi’s Mansion (via Nintendo Classics)
- Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD (Remastered for Switch 2)
- Luigi’s Mansion 3 (Natively on Switch)
This makes your Switch 2 the ultimate destination for paranormal pest control.
The Growing Nintendo Classics Library
Luigi’s Mansion follows other recent GameCube additions to the service like Chibi-Robo! and Mario Smash Football. It was also one of the ten flagship titles initially announced for the Nintendo Classics program, joining other highly-requested games like Super Mario Sunshine, Pokémon Colosseum, and Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance.
Remember, to access this and other GameCube classics, you’ll need a Nintendo Switch 2 console and an active Expansion Pack tier subscription for Nintendo Switch Online.
