The walls between console gardens are crumbling, and this week, we got our biggest sledgehammer yet. In a move that would have been unthinkable a decade ago, Microsoft officially announced that a new Halo game—a full Unreal Engine 5 remake of the original—is coming to PlayStation 5 in 2026.
Cue the internet melting down.
While PlayStation fans are (rightfully) celebrating, the news has sparked another burning question in the Nintendo community: If Halo is going to PS5, could the Master Chief ever make the jump to the Switch 2?
Microsoft isn’t saying anything about that specific dream yet, but they are loudly and clearly reiterating their commitment to Nintendo’s next-gen system.
The Official Word from the Top
In a recent chat with Famitsu, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer laid it out plainly. After talking about lowering barriers with services like Game Pass, he made their multi-platform ambitions crystal clear:
“However, if there are people who want to play our games on the PlayStation 5 or the Nintendo Switch 2, we would love for them to play our games on those platforms. In that regard, we have received excellent support from both Sony Interactive Entertainment and Nintendo.”
This isn’t a one-off comment. Spencer has been singing this tune all year, stating the Xbox team is “really looking forward” to supporting the Switch 2. Now that dev kits are out in the wild, the path is being paved for some major announcements.
The Writing is on the Wall (and on the Switch)
Let’s be real, this isn’t just talk. Xbox’s strategy has been shifting for a while:
- They inked a deal to bring Call of Duty back to Nintendo platforms.
- We’ve already seen successful ports of Grounded and Pentiment on the current Switch.
- The “more platforms” mantra has been their official line for over a year.
The Halo announcement for PS5 proves that no franchise is sacred in this new Microsoft era. The floodgates are officially open.
The Million-Dollar Question
So, back to the big one: Will we see Halo on the Switch 2?
While a straight port of the modern Infinite might be a tall order, a cloud version or a classic MCC-style collection suddenly feels… possible. The real takeaway is that the possibility is no longer zero. If the UE5 Halo remake runs on PS5, a technically competent Switch 2 could absolutely handle it.
What do you think? Now that the precedent is set, what Xbox game is at the top of your Switch 2 wishlist? Gears of War? Forza Horizon? Let’s dream big in the comments.
