Well, well, well. Think Nintendo had let Metroid Prime 4: Beyond fall off its radar? Think again.
With the game’s December launch now just a month away, the Big N has dropped a brand-new trailer ominously titled “Survive,” and it’s every bit the sci-fi spectacle we’ve been starving for.
Now, a quick disclaimer for the hardcore hunters who’ve dissected every frame up to this point: this isn’t a three-minute epic. It’s a tight, one-minute sizzle reel. A lot of the footage will be familiar, but sandwiched between the known sequences are some delicious new crumbs.
So, what’s new on the menu?
We get a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it look at some eerie, psychic platforms that materialize out of thin air. There are hints of mysterious vehicles lurking in jungles, some seriously cinematic starship dogfights, and more of that vast, open desert we know we’ll be tearing across on our good ol’ Vi-O-La.
The trailer also gives us a slightly extended, and far more intense, look at that fight with a pack of alien wolves. And of course, what would a Metroid Prime trailer be without our favorite bounty hunter? Samus is back and she’s still nailing that iconic Akira slide—a move we will never, ever get tired of.
Let’s be real: Nintendo is still playing this one close to the chest. The big picture remains shrouded in mystery, which is honestly impressive for a game that launches in exactly one month.
But from what we can see? The long, long-awaited return to first-person adventure is looking mighty fine. Now the final wait begins. Let’s just cross our fingers that the final product can not only meet but crush the decade-plus of anticipation.
What did you spot in the “Survive” trailer? Are you hyped, or still cautiously optimistic? Sound off in the comments, and let’s get the hype train rolling.
