Well, the big N has officially thrown its hat into the Black Friday ring. As reported by Polygon, Nintendo has unveiled its official promotions for the holiday shopping season, and the lineup is… classic Nintendo.
Let’s be real: if you were holding out for a fire sale on a Nintendo Switch 2 or its flagship games, you might want to temper those expectations. This batch of deals is squarely focused on helping you fill out your original Switch library with some (admittedly excellent) gems you might have missed.
The deals kick off at participating retailers on November 23.
The Game Deals: Some Solid Pickups for Your Backlog
Nintendo is offering two main tiers of discounts: a 33% off tier and a 50% off tier. Here’s the breakdown of what’s on the menu.
Games for $39.99:
This tier has some of the more recent heavy-hitters and a couple of timeless classics. Not bad for building out the collection.
- Donkey Kong Country Returns HD
- Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe
- The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
- Luigi’s Mansion 3
- Princess Peach: Showtime!
Games for $29.99 (50% Off):
Now we’re talking. This is where you’ll find some undeniable bangers. Super Mario Odyssey for thirty bucks is an absolute steal that belongs in every single collection.
- Nintendo Switch Sports
- Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
- Splatoon 3
- Super Mario Odyssey
The “Yeah, But Where’s the Switch 2 Stuff?” Section
Here’s the catch, and it’s a predictable one: none of these deals are for Switch 2-exclusive titles. Your dreams of snagging Mario Kart World or Donkey Kong Bananza for a discount this year are, sadly, just dreams. Nintendo isn’t discounting any hardware, either—no deals on the original Switch or the shiny new Switch 2.
That said, keep your eyes peeled on major retailers like Best Buy, Walmart, and Target. They often have their own doorbusters and bundles that could include Nintendo hardware, so all hope isn’t lost.
Other Nintendo-Branded Savings
A few other items are getting price cuts:
- Amiibo: Select figures, including the Sages from The Legend of Zelda and some Street Fighter 6 characters, will be $10 off.
- Storage: For Switch 2 owners, the most practical deal here might be the Samsung MicroSD Express Cards, which are getting a $20 discount. If you’re already running out of space for your next-gen library, this is a solid buy.
Don’t forget the Nintendo eShop sale, either! Digital shoppers can find their own deals from November 20 through December 3.
So, what’s the verdict? It’s a safe, somewhat predictable lineup from Nintendo. But if you’re still rocking the original Switch and have gaps in your library, this is a perfect chance to grab some all-time greats without breaking the bank.
Are you planning to pick anything up? Or are you, like me, just waiting for that elusive Switch 2 bundle? Let’s chat in the comments.
