Alright, folks, clear your launch tubes and charge your Lumas. The first full trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has officially blasted off, and it’s everything we hoped for and a few things we never saw coming.

Nintendo and Illumination just dropped this cosmic spectacle, and it’s clear they’re not just rehashing the first film. We’re getting a full-on tour of the cosmos, with locations ripped straight from the gravitational goodness of Super Mario Galaxy… and wait, is that Sand Kingdom? Yep, in a move that has us grinning, they’re also throwing in some love from Super Mario Odyssey. This isn’t just a galaxy trip; it’s a greatest-hits tour of Mario’s 3D adventures.

And who are our guides on this star-filled journey? The trailer gave us our first good look at two major characters:

  • Rosalina, the cosmic mama herself, is finally making her big-screen debut.
  • And looking for a little payback, Bowser Jr. is swooping in with his paintbrush in hand.

But the casting here is where things get really interesting. Forget what you expected, because the voice behind these characters is A-list and then some.

  • Brie Larson is voicing Rosalina. This is a piece of casting that just fits. Larson is a self-professed Nintendo megafan. The woman literally kicked a boyfriend out of her house because he interrupted her Super Mario Galaxy session. She’s done sponsored content for Metroid Dread and has dressed as Samus for Halloween. She’s one of us, and she’s perfect for the role.
  • Stepping into the tiny, angry shoes of Bowser Jr. is Benny Safdie. You might know him from his intense acting roles or, more likely, as the co-director of anxiety-attack-inducing masterpieces like Uncut Gems. An inspired, left-field choice that we’re incredibly curious about.

The trailer also reconfirmed the April 2026 release window. It feels far, but with this first look already in orbit, you can bet we’ll get another Nintendo Direct dedicated to the film sooner rather than later.

So, what’s the verdict, crew?

Does this trailer have you more hyped than a 1-Up mushroom? Are you all-in on the Galaxy and Odyssey mashup? And what do you think of the star-powered casting?
