Well, would you look at that. It seems 2026 is close enough for Nintendo to be getting its calendar game in order, and they’ve just dropped two new ones for you to spend your hard-earned Platinum Points on.
Hot on the heels of the recent Nintendo Switch 2 rumors, the big N has unveiled both a standard “My Nintendo” calendar and an exclusive one just for paid Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. Each will set you back 400 Platinum Points.
So, what’s the difference between them?
The standard ‘My Nintendo’ 2026 Calendar is a greatest-hits reel of key art from modern heavy-hitters. We’re talking Mario Kart World, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Donkey Kong Bananza, and Pikmin 4. It’s a solid lineup, and let’s be honest, we all judge a calendar by which masterpiece gets to grace our birthday month. This one doesn’t disappoint.
But for my money, the NSO-exclusive 2026 Calendar is where the real magic is. This one dives deep into the vault for a hit of pure nostalgia, featuring classic box art and visuals from the Nintendo Classics catalogue. We’re talking timeless gems like Teleroboxer, Super Mario 64, Metroid Fusion, and Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
If I had to choose, the retro vibe of the NSO calendar just barely edges out the standard one for me. The classic art styles just have a certain charm that’s hard to beat.
Here’s the catch, though: Both calendars are apparently just separate pieces of cardboard that you slot into a basic stand. Not exactly the premium, spiral-bound experience you might be hoping for. It’s a little… cheap, frankly.

So, what’s the verdict? Is the nostalgic pull of the NSO calendar enough for you to claim it, or are you sticking with the modern art of the standard one? More importantly, does the cardboard construction bug you, or is it a non-issue? Sound off in the comments!
