Get ready to die… again, and again, and again, but this time from a whole new perspective. In a surprise announcement that has the platformer community buzzing, publishers Headup and developers Sluggerfly have confirmed that Super Meat Boy 3D is officially coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 .
Slated for a release later in 2026, Super Meat Boy 3D does exactly what it says on the tin. It takes the brutally difficult, twitch-reflex precision platforming of the original and hurls it into the third dimension. You’ll once again control the animated cube of meat on his desperate quest to save his bandage-wrapped girlfriend from that dastardly fetus in a tuxedo, but now you’ll be navigating sawblades and bottomless pits with an added axis of depth .
The announcement comes with a delightfully self-aware tone, promising all the classic elements fans love, now in 3D. The key features list includes:
- Tough-as-nails precision platforming action.
- Brutal, but fair levels designed to break you.
- Epic boss fights.
- Dark World levels so tough, you’ll scream in the rain at a bus stop.
- …and, of course, it’s all in 3D!
While the original Super Meat Boy became a benchmark for indie platformers, this sequel is shaping up to be a true reinvention. Moving a precision-based game into a 3D space is a massive challenge, but if the team at Sluggerfly can pull it off, Super Meat Boy 3D could be one of the most thrilling and rage-inducing titles on the Switch 2. A trailer accompanied the announcement, giving us our first glimpse of Meat Boy navigating a 3D world of peril. We’ll be sure to bring you an exact release date as soon as it’s announced.
