Turns out, Paramount’s blue blur is doing more than just selling popcorn — he’s sending people straight to Spotify to dig through 30 years of absolute heat.
SEGA’s Sound Team recently opened up about how the success of the Sonic film franchise has had a noticeable impact on the number of listens the classic game soundtracks are pulling in. Basically, people are watching Sonic zoom around on the big screen, getting those good vibes, and then going home to discover that *Green Hill Zone* has been slapping since 1991. Welcome to the party, everyone!
It makes total sense when you think about it. The movies have introduced a whole new generation to Sonic as a character, and once you’re emotionally invested, you go digging. One YouTube rabbit hole later and suddenly you’re three hours deep into the *Sonic Adventure 2* soundtrack wondering why “Live and Learn” doesn’t play at every sporting event on the planet.
The SEGA Sound Team deserves every single stream they’re getting. From Jun Senoue’s guitar-driven bangers to the chill dreamscape of *Sonic Unleashed*, this franchise has one of gaming’s most consistently excellent musical catalogs. If the movies are the gateway drug, we are absolutely here for it.
It’s honestly a beautiful thing when new media sends people back to appreciate the classics. More ears on great music is always a win.
